How do I install auto body kits? Pay someone else to do it. Kidding! Well, maybe. Let’s explain. As with any other decision you make in life, it is important to consider a few things:
- Time
- Money
- Talent / Experience
- Inclination
- Other
Time – Some people have more time than money regarding installation of body kits for autos, some the opposite. Some people don’t have enough of either; and there may be a lucky few who have all they want of both (not us, unfortunately). So, which one are you? If you have the time to do a body kit installation, that is a point in favor of doing it yourself. Even if you are a novice, with enough time you can learn what you need to do and spend the time on a very satisfying auto project.
Money – What was said above about time could be applied to money as well, although probably fewer would say they have all they want for auto body kits! Many of us are familiar with the truth that if you can’t really afford to buy an auto service, you do the body kit installation yourself. This is not necessarily a bad thing. If you have the money and would prefer to spend that rather than time, by all means hire a shop to install your auto body kit. Shop around for this service just as you did for the body kit and you should be able to find a reputable service for a fair price.
Talent / Experience – A little honesty here with yourself will go a long way. How handy are you with tools? Do you work on your auto all the time? Have you done body kit work on autos and/or painting before, or at least taken a class or two? If you can turn wrenches with the best of them, and even better are detail oriented, installing your own body kit is probably a no brainer. On the other hand, if you spend more of your time tuning the stereo than the engine, you may be more comfortable having a competent craftsman do the body kit installation.
Inclination – Neither time nor money, nor even your level of experience, may be as important in this equation as the simple fact of how motivated you are to do the installation for auto body kits. If you flat out don’t want to do it, the decision is made. Hire someone and enjoy the final result. But if you really, really feel like doing this for whatever reason — you enjoy a challenge, a friend bet you that you couldn’t do it, you want to impress your girlfriend — by all means, go for it. You may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome. And think how proud you will be when you are cruising down the street knowing that everyone is eyeing your new body kit that you installed yourself!
